The
Acker Cottage is named after the Acker family, early
settlers in the Shelburne Area. The Ackers were well-known as a
family whose generations operated saw mills and lumbering
businesses. They were the primary supplier of raw and milled
lumber used by the Cox and Muir family shipbuilding
operations.

The David George
Cottage is named after one of the most accomplished African Canadians to
have ever set foot in Nova Scotia. David George came to
Birchtown as a member of the Black Loyalists, where he began preaching to and baptizing the blacks within the community.
Later, he became involved in preparing for the voyage to Sierra Leone. He and his family made the journey and George continued his preaching there..

the coast in 1967.

COTTAGE |
The
Crosby Cottage commemorates the lives of two
generations of the Crosbies, from nearby Historic
Lockeport. The family patriarch was an industrial arts
instructor for decades and all of his children are quite
accomplished craftspersons. The family tradition
is carried on by a master weaver, a waterfowl carver and
specialty guitar maker, a musician, plus a renowned builder of hand-crafted
homes in the County.
